Student protest at the Neelsie

Stellenbosch University confirms that a group of about twenty students entered the Langenhoven Student Centre (die Neelsie) this morning before 9am. The group has not made its protest demands clear.

The group had initially locked entrances to the Student Centre hindering students, staff and public from entering or leaving the building. Currently entrances to the centre are locked.

The situation is closely monitored by the Student Centre's security staff, Campus Security and SAPS, while relevant staff members and student leaders are engaging with the group. Stellenbosch University is committed to resolve this matter in a positive way and hope to restore entry to the Neelsie as soon as possible.​
