Applications open for PGDip in Sustainable Development

Interested in a postgraduate qualification in sustainable development? The Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) at Stellenbosch University is accepting applications for its 2024 PGDip programme. The Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development aims to introduce and deepen students’ understanding and knowledge of sustainable development ambitions and challenges during this time of global transition.

The programme comprises of eight modules that can be taken over one year (fulltime) or two years (part-time) and offers transdisciplinary training in the fields of complexity theory, social-ecological systems and sustainability transitions and transformations. Participants will gain valuable insights into navigating the complex dynamics of change across interconnected food, energy, conservation, urban, and water systems. Cross-cutting themes of power, governance, policy, justice, agency, and ethics are explored across diverse contexts, with a particular focus on Africa and the global south.

At the end of the programme participants will have the knowledge and practical skills to understand and analyse interconnected global and local sustainability challenges, and be equipped to participate as change agents in support of just and sustainable futures. Participants can expect to experience a transformative and holistic learning experience mixed with classroom-style lectures and outdoor experiential learning in nature that takes place at various locations in and around Stellenbosch University.

The PGDip is an honours-level qualification (NQF 8). Applications close on 31 August 2023. To apply or to access the prospectus, visit http://www0.sun.ac.za/cst/study-3/pgdip/. For more information, contact Monique Beukes, PGDip programme administrator at the CST, at mb7@sun.ac.za.
