Dear students and colleagues

President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially declared 29 May 2024 as Election Day in our country. Additionally, he has proclaimed this day as a public holiday throughout the Republic of South Africa.

According to the 2024 Institutional Almanac, 29 May 2024 falls within the mid-year assessment period, outlined as follows:

a) June A2 assessment period: 20 May–8 June
b) June A3 assessment period: 10 June–28 June

In light of this proclamation, the University is required to adjust the mid-year assessment dates to accommodate the public holiday and allow all University stakeholders the opportunity to participate in the electoral process. We are currently consulting with the relevant stakeholders in this regard. Our aim is to minimise disruption for all involved parties. However, I urge students to ensure their availability for the entire assessment period from 20 May to 28 June 2024.

Please be advised that a comprehensive communication will be circulated to all stakeholders once the new assessment timetable has been finalised. The 2024 Institutional Almanac will further be updated accordingly.

Kind regards
Dr Ronel Retief
