Workshops put SU values into action

The values of Stellenbosch University (SU) relate to the believes and attitudes that guide our behaviour (“our action guides”). It provides the golden standard for the kind of community we aspire to be. Therefore, these values – excellence, compassion, equity, respect and accountability – need to become part of how we act, make decisions and deal with ethical challenges.

The University's Values in Action (ViA) practical workshops aim to equip staff and students to embody values-driven behaviour and leadership.

The basic ViA workshop will enable participants to develop a common understanding of the kind of university community we would like to be and to acquire skills to manage possible values conflicts. 

The following themes are covered during the workshop:

* The meaning of values;

* Values conflicts and how to resolve them;

* How to integrate values in how we behave and relate to others; and

* The integration of values through leadership and teamwork.

All SU staff are hereby invited to join this journey by attending one of these full-day workshops.

Although the basic ViA workshop can be focused within a specific division or department, open workshops are also available for staff across the University. This enables interaction between diverse individuals from a variety of environment.

The following dates are currently available for open workshops:

* Wednesday 10 April 2024 (two spaces left)

* Monday 27 May 2024 (eight spaces left)

* Thursday 6 June 2024

Please contact Jacolette Kloppers at jacolette@sun.ac.za to RSVP for one of the workshops – at least two weeks before the relevant date. Workshops are presented at the L’Avenir wine estate near Stellenbosch and take place from 08:00 to 16:30. More details will be communicated to the attendees.
