Nine graduation ceremonies will be held at Stellenbosch University next week, and for the first time doctoral degrees will be handed over during two separate ceremonies in the Endler.

The graduation ceremonies can have an impact on traffic flow and the availability of parking. Students have to be at the venues at least two hours before the ceremonies start and this could have an impact on staff who park at the DF Malan centre and take the shuttle to the campus.

In the afternoon staff members leaving work could be affected by people driving to town for the 17:30 graduation ceremony.

Graduates with disabilities or graduates with injuries that prevent them from crossing the stage, are most welcome to contact Mrs Dorothy van Kerwel for special arrangements so that degrees may be conferred on the ground level in front of the stage.

Graduates, who have guests that require special arrangements due to illness or immobility, are also welcome to contact Mrs Van Kerwel.

Arrangements can be made to seat guests in wheelchairs in a reserved area next to their family members, if the Division of Communication and Liaison is advised in advance. Tel: 021 808 3729 or dvk@sun.ac.za.

Staff members who know of "interesting degrees" that can be communicated with the media, are welcome to e-mail the information to boschtelegram@sun.ac.za. This information includes:

  1. Degrees about interesting topics (especially Master's and Doctoral degrees).
  2. Degrees that were obtained under difficult circumstances, for example by disabled students or by students who experienced difficult personal circumstances.
  3. Students who receive their degrees at an advanced age.
