The University of Stellenbosch's Faculty of AgriSciences is inviting prospective candidates to apply for a two-year MSc in Sustainable Agriculture degree programme. Its purpose is to challenge students to view agriculture as a system where economic, environmental and social aspects are integrated to ensure sustainability of production. This is a two-year degree programme with both a taught and research component. The following modules are covered in the first year:
Introduction to Systems Thinking
Sustainable Soil Management
Sustainable Plant Production
Sustainable Animal Production
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
Sociology of Sustainable Agriculture
Economics of Sustainable Agriculture
Systems Analysis and Simulation
Analysis of Land-use Systems
On completion of these modules, students will undergo a work-integrated learning programme for 4-6 weeks, where they will be linked to organizations in industry to experience real life perspectives and tackle industry problems using sustainable agriculture techniques. In the second year, students carry out a research project leading to a thesis.
Entry requirements:
Prospective candidates with a BSc degree in any Agricultural Science field (at least 65% average), may apply. Applicants with a BSc degree (at least 65% average) in related fields will also be considered. Applications should be done online at http://www0.sun.ac.za/pgstudies/.
