Each post is a one-year contract appointment for an independent contractor. Remuneration and other contractual requirements will be negotiated with each successful candidate.
The Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD) provides psychological and support services to registered students. The Unit for Academic Counselling and Development specialises in academic and career development support for registered students and need Educational/Counselling Psychologist Consultants. The Unit for Psychotherapeutic and Support Services specialises in psychotherapeutic support to registered students and need Clinical Psychologist Consultants.
Duties:
- Conducting intake interviews;
- Case formulation;
- Identifying clients' possible areas for development;
- Diagnosis (where applicable);
- Developing appropriate interventions;
- Psycho-education;
- Psychotherapy;
- Case management and administration;
- Facilitating workshops (only Educational/Counselling Psychologist consultants);
- Related administrative duties.
Requirements:
- Med Psych or MA in Psychology or any other applicable qualification;
- Registration as an Educational/Counselling Psychologist or Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
- Proven experience of psycho-therapeutic service delivery for young adults;
- With regards to Educational/Counselling Psychologists, at least six months' practical experience of academic counselling and career development work in a Higher Education environment;
- Proven computer literacy;
- Proficiency in Afrikaans or English.
Recommendations:
- Command of an additional African language;
Educational / Counselling Psychologist:
- Experience in the development and facilitation of academic workshops;
- Proven experience in the application of a theoretical framework for academic counselling and development;
- Experience of rendering psychological services within a Higher Education environment.
Clinical Psychologist:
- Experience in multidisciplinary cooperation with medical practitioners and other health professionals within the health sciences;
- Training in short-term psychotherapeutic modalities;
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS counselling.
