The Creative Jewellery Design and Metal Techniques Division presents a holiday school in basic jewellery-making techniques at the Visual Arts Building from 15-20 July daily from 09:00 to 16:00.
This 5-day course is open to anyone with a passion for jewellery and no previous experience or knowledge is required. During the classes, four complete pieces of sterling silver jewellery will be designed and manufactured.
The projects will be demonstrated and design considerations will be discussed. All equipment will be supplied and sterling silver is included in the fee. Working materials are sold as needed for example: semi-precious beads, saw blades, drill bits and copper.
Numerous traditional techniques will be learned like the melting, casting and rolling out of silver to make sheet and wire, the stringing of beads and the cuttlefish casting method. The different skills are combined to manufacture a pair of earrings, a bracelet, pendant and a ring.
This course is a wonderful opportunity to explore jewellery-making as a life-long hobby. All classes are taught in the Jewellery Division studios, in the Visual Arts Building, Victoria Street, Stellenbosch. Booking is essential as space is limited.
Evening classes run from 22 July to 21 October on Monday evenings from 17:30–20:30.
