A fast-spreading spam e-mail is circulating on campus. By means of phishing, the spammer gains access to your Outlook cloud e-mail and then proceeds to spam all your contacts, using your email address.
Due to the mass e-mails sent from your mailbox, Microsoft will then automatically block your e-mail and you will not be able to access it. An example of the e-mail is listed below, with all the dangerous links removed.
Please remember to look out for typical signs of a phishing e-mail. Just because it's sent from a @sun address does not mean it can not be spam. Always hover over the link and see if it's really referring to the correct address (in this case it's Google)
Generally, spelling tends to be bad in phishing e-mails, as well as a tendency to use different colours text and fonts. If it's an e-mail from IT, it will always be bilingual and in a recognisable template. For more ways to recognise a phishing e-mail, have a look at this infographic.
If you suddenly don't have access to your e-mail, contact the IT helpdesk (x4367 or help@sun.ac.za). If you've clicked on a suspicious link, change your password immediately.
