Good quality compost available on Welgevallen Experimental farm.
The goal of the composting is to recycle all the organic waste materials being generated on campus and the farm.
Waste products used in the compost making includes cow manure (Maties Milk), sheep manure (Animal Science), fruit waste (Horticulture), grapeskins & stems (IWBT & Viticulture), grow tunnel waste tomatoes & cucumbers (Agronomy), wheat straw (Genetics) and garden waste form university gardens.
Secondly is to create jobs by using more people to build and manage the composting windrows
Quality of the compost is assessed on international standards to ensure best plant health and growth.
