The Division for Research Development sent out a memorandum on 11 July 2013 to the research community, informing them of the implementation of the RIMS system on campus. The system will allow for online ethics applications via e-forms and committee feedback directly to SU assigned email accounts of applicants.
They are now ready to roll out the online process for applications to the Research Ethics Committee: Animal Care and Use. Prospective applicants (and supervisors, in the case of students applying) must therefore be trained on the system.
Several training opportunities are scheduled to take place on the SU main and Tygerberg campuses. This training is vital to ensure that applicants successfully and timeously submit complete applications.
Applicants must visit the DRD website (www.sun.ac.za/research) to register for a training opportunity on any one of the campuses. Any queries can be directed to Winston Beukes (wabeukes@sun.ac.za; x9003).
The Library and Information Service will be presenting its second Library Research Week this year from 4 – 8 August 2014. The aim of the event is to develop skills and knowledge of emerging Stellenbosch University researchers and students and to equip them with the necessary SMARTs to guide them on their research path.
The focus of the final day of Library Research Week 2014 will be CONTROL IT: tools and applications to manage your research. We invite all students and researchers to share the innovative resources and applications they use to manage any aspect of their research. This can be done by handing in a short description or presentation of the resource(s) or application(s) of their choice and a description of how it contributes to research management.
The top five submissions will be selected to be shared with peers in the form of short presentations on 8 August 2014 at 10:30 in the Learning Commons, JS Gericke Library. The presenter with the best presentation voted for on the day will receive the grand prize of an Apple iPad, sponsored by Elsevier. The remaining four presenters will also receive a prize each for participation.
