Investigation indicate that thefts are committed within as little as three minutes!
The following tips are provided in order to prevent incidents as described above:
- Get to know your fellow-residents.
- Avoid giving unknown individuals access to the premises.
- You can refuse access to a hostel if the person is unable to identify him/herself! Let the person wait outside the premises and ask the Residence Service Coordinator or Prim for help.
- Access cards should not be borrowed out.
- If your card is lost or stolen, cancel the card immediately.
- Doors of hostel rooms should be locked when leaving, even if only for THREE minutes. This applies especially at hostels where construction work is being done.
- Windows must be closed when leaving rooms. Windows with burglar bars should also be closed, especially on the ground floor.
- Avoid leaving valuable items close to or in sight near open windows.
- Where necessary, make use of good quality padlocks, instead of combination locks.
Be alert, suspects pose as students!
