Application for BSc(Hons) Bursaries in the Department of Chemistry & Polymer Science, Stellenbosch University

The Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science at Stellenbosch University is pleased to offer 3 prestigious bursaries for study BSc(Hons) degree in 2014 to outstanding BSc graduate (expecting graduate in 2013) with a passion to further their studies in the chemical sciences. We seek candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies in three years and have a very good to outstanding academic record, irrespective of sex, race or creed. The value of these BSc(Hons) bursaries will be a minimum of R50000, and preference is for students who did not carry out undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University.

In the last decade, the Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science has established itself as one of the leading and highly productive research oriented chemical science departments in South Africa. A dynamic, young and research active staff compliment of 23, including three Research Chairs (2 SARChi and one SA industry sponsored), carry out a diverse portfolio of teaching and cutting-edge research in modern chemical sciences.

Applications from top candidates expecting to graduate with a BSc degree majoring in chemistry (together with a related discipline e.g physics, mathematics, biochemistry) are invited to reach The Head of the Department by not later than (18 October 2013) Applications should be in writing and can be submitted by email, but must please include

  1. An up to date Curriculum Vitae, with a photograph
  2. A certified, recent academic record
  3. A short (one page) letter of motivation outlining the career goals, dreams of the candidate
  4. The names and email addresses of two suitable persons, who would be prepared to provide letters of reference about the applicant

Candidates are also asked to formally apply for admission online on the Stellenbosch University website for 2014.

Final offers to selected candidates can only be confirmed once a final academic record and confirmation of BSc graduation is received.
