Apply for bursaries

​From Thursday 1 August 2013, postgraduate students at Stellenbosch University can start applying for bursaries tenable at Stellenbosch University in 2014 at the details below.

Bursaries such as the Harry Crossley, SU Merit and Support Bursaries and several NRF funds are currently open with values ranging from R15 000 - R100 000 (subject to individual criteria) providing coverage for postgraduate students in an array of disciplines at Stellenbosch University.

Bursary name: Harry Crossley bursary
Closing date: 20 September 2013
Bursary Value: R60 000-R80 000
Comments: Bursaries for Master’s and Doctoral study (all directions except Theology and Political Science). Thirty-five awards including Renewals.

Bursary name: HB & MJ Thom
Closing date: 13 September 2013
Bursary value: R20 000 – R40 000
Comments: A maximum of 6 awards are made. Criteria of award include: good moral values and positive post-matric leadership potential in the following fields: sport, cultural, academics, religion, etc.

Bursary name: Medical Research Council (MRC)
Closing date: 15 September 2013
Bursary value: R40 000 – R60 000

Bursary name: NRF Master’s and PhD
Closing date: 20 September 2013
Bursary value: R40 000 - R100 000
Comments: NRF-Honours scholarships are strictly awarded according to the quota specification (in terms of nationality, gender and study field) of the NRF.

Bursary name: NRF DAAD
Closing date: 14 August 2013
Bursary value: R60 000 - R90 000
Comments: NRF-Honours scholarships are strictly awarded according to the quota specification (in terms of nationality, gender and study field) of the NRF.​

Bursary name: NRF Honours
Closing date: 6 December 2013
Bursary value: R20 000 – R40 000​
Comments: NRF-Honours scholarships are strictly awarded according to the quota specification (in terms of nationality, gender and study field) of the NRF.​

Bursary name: SU Postgraduate MERIT Bursary
Closing date: 6 December 2013
Bursary value: To be announced
Comments: Available to full-time postgraduate students who obtained 75% in their previous degree qualification provided that the candidate is not in possession of a degree on the same level. 

Bursary name: SU Postgraduate SUPPORT Bursary (extreme financial need)
Closing date: 8 November 2013
Bursary value: R15 000 - R40 000
Comments: Only available to students with extreme financial need with a total gross family income of R250 000 per annum.

Bursary name: Smaller private bursaries
Closing date: 6 December 2013
Bursary value: Varies R5000 - R10000
Comments: Limited number of bursaries, small amounts and limited to certain subjects.
