Page Content:

SU staff members in all faculties and support service divisions are requested to register new (or unregistered) projects for 2015 and/or confirm previously registered projects which continue to be active in 2015. The annual registration deadline is 31 October.

New (or previously unregistered) Projects: Registration in this regard means that project owners are requested to fill in all the information pertaining to the project on the database and submit it for approval.

Existing Projects: These are projects that were registered in 2014 and will continue in 2015. Registration in this regard means that project owners will adapt the existing record only where necessary, and confirm the information that remains the same.

Please remember to submit your project for approval to your Head of Department and Dean on the database. Once your project has been approved, you will receive an email confirming the approval of your project.

Registration and approval is only valid for the calendar year to ensure an accurate institutional record of all Community Interaction projects which can be used for management, monitoring, evaluation purposes. Collaboration and funding opportunities can then also be facilitated.

How to access the database:
http://admin.sun.ac.za/CIDB

• Go to the University Home Page
• Click on "Community Interaction"
• Click on "Community Interaction Projects"
• Use the submenu to go to "Community Interaction Project Database"
• The list of all Community Interaction projects will appear

• Login at the top of the screen (with your network username and password) to register or update your project.

Should you encounter any problems with the registration of your CI project, please contact Joanne Williams @ jhenry@sun.ac.za or 021 808 2977. Appointments can be made with Joanne should you require personal assistance with the registration process.

Please note that registered community interaction projects also enjoy the benefit of the services of the Stellenbosch Foundation in terms of funding support for their projects.

A makeover for the ugly stepsister of corporate communication

We put theory to practice in an interactive plain language writing course that focuses on legal documents.

Who should attend the workshop?

The workshop is aimed at professionals who communicate on behalf of an organisation or who draft documents such as

  • terms and conditions;
  • disclaimers;
  • notices;
  • contracts;
  • correspondence;
  • forms; and
  • marketing material.

The workshop is therefore ideal for people who need to create more effective, client-centred business communication.

What is covered in the workshop?

We will look at the entire process of effective legal communication in plain language, including

  • guiding your organisation towards plain language;
  • plain-language challenges;
  • planning, in other words understanding your objectives and the expectations of your audience;
  • drafting, in other words choosing what to communicate, getting organised and writing; and
  • editing, testing and revising.

You will be given ample opportunity to put your skills into practice and you will receive feedback from experts. If you would like to send us an example of your work beforehand, you are welcome to do so.

About the presenters

Elizabeth de Stadler and Liezl van Zyl write, consult and design effective communication for a living. One an attorney and the other an information designer by profession, they are a formidable team, challenging the way that organisations approach their legal writing.

Date: 22-23 April

This year the campaign will run from Monday to Thursday, 13th to 16th April on the Tygerberg campus (outside the TSS) and on Stellenbosch Campus in the Neelsie VV Hall, 21st to 23rd April. More than 300 students and staff have already gone for HIV testing during the first 2 days of the First Things First campaign at the Tygerberg campus.

The campaign urges students and staff to come for a quick, free and confidential HIV test. We specifically encourage first years and students from the LGBTQI community to make use of this opportunity. Some clients will receive a 2GB USB armband depending on stock availability.

First Things First aims to encourage young South Africans, our future leaders, to be responsible, get tested for HIV and to empower themselves. The focus on first year students and the LGBTQI community emphasises the need to provide quality HIV testing to vulnerable individuals.

Contact Malan (pmwalt@sun.ac.za), our Key Populations Coordinator for more info or support if you are from the LGBTQI student community. Or contact Jaco (jgbrink@sun.ac.za; HIV Prevention & Research) for more info about this campaign and other available services.
